Debate II: Minimum Wage, Maximum Sage

The second debate was held on Sunday, January 26, 2014 at the Chairman’s Manor and was, as expected, a great success. The topic question was as follows:

Should the federal minimum wage of $7.25 be raised?

Five of the six PRPR Members prior to the debate answered in the affirmative, one answered in the negative.

The day’s events started before noon as Membership broke bagel together. The abundant feast, prepared by the PRPR Secretariat, was adorned with jalapeno-infused cream cheese, red grapes that snapped with sweetness, freshly cut pineapple and succulent strawberries, rich chocolate-chip muffins, fine coffee and cream, Prosecco with a spot of orange juice and a shot of Prosecco, and beer from far-away places like the lush gardens of Hawaii and the rolling hills of Italy. For the pièce de résistance, Mademoiselle C.K. Catherine unveiled a tarte de citron that perfectly embodied the wit and whimsy of the lemon groves lining the sun-soaked shores of the Mediterranean Sea. Each bite was like a portal to that place of infinite goodness.

Then the business began. Facts flung, theories soared, assumptions dove, and ideologies simultaneously simmered and sizzled. And all with the steadfast mimosa standing at attention like a foxhound before a Yorkshire hunt.

The issue presented at Debate II was perfectly suited to our newest-attending Member, M.C. Sickle, whose economic expertise proved an especially potent asset to the mission of developing a deeper understanding of the issue’s complexities. MCS explained several technical concepts he used in support of his position that elucidated the topic and provided an invaluable introduction to some fundamental workings of the freer aspects of our market.

His Lordship James and The Comrade Katarina are the strong foundation on which PRPR greatness is steadied. Their skill, tenacity, and bravery in battle are without equal and were showcased at Debate II.

The PRPR inaugurated its Junior Members and founders of the PRPR Tyke Squad, Tyke 1 and Tyke 2, who played an integral role in the opening and closing ceremony. Their enthusiasm was contagious, their politics were admirably guarded, and their love of Chairman was self-evident.

Although Debate II did not include contributions from the Friends of PRPR, a video clip of economist Walter E. Williams and one of industrialist Bill Gates provided interesting expert insight. The video of Mr. Williams in which he expresses his opinion about the minimum wage and its effect on black Americans, particularly on young blacks, is as follows:

Mr. Gates briefly shares his thoughts about the problem here.

At the conclusion of the discussion, the Secretariat called Membership to the sitting room for après débat. And so it was enjoyed.

Debate II improved the attending Membership’s comprehension and appreciation of the argument. Consensus wasn’t reached, but solidarity didn’t budge.
